My passion is helping people to build and maintain strength, by making fitness accessible and enjoyable particularly for those in midlife. I want people to feel confident, love who they see in the mirror, and fully enjoy their next chapter. Our classes are built around real lives and goals, making strength and healthy habits simple and enjoyable to follow.

Classic strength exercises like squats, lunges, presses and curls are fantastic foundational movements. They build lean muscle, protect our bones and keep us strong.

Yet, when we look at our day-to-day lives, real movement rarely happens purely in a straight line.

Think about how you move from morning to evening. You reach into the back seat of the car to grab a shopping bag. You pivot from the sink to put a plate into a high cupboard behind you. You step sideways to avoid a pet or turn quickly to catch a grandchild. Real life is vibrant, spontaneous and wonderfully three-dimensional.

That is why I always make functional, multi-directional movement a core pillar in my classes at Stronger You for Life. By training our bodies to move fluidly in every direction – especially with gentle, purposeful rotation – we unlock the kind of every day agility, confidence and independence that keeps us thriving in midlife and beyond.

The power of rotational ability

As we navigate midlife, hormonal shifts naturally influence muscle tone, joint lubrication and connective tissue elasticity. This makes staying active more rewarding than ever, but it also means our bodies love variety and multi-directional care.

Maintaining our ability to rotate through the hips and upper back is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves as we age. Because every day modern habits often keep us facing forward (sitting at desks, driving or looking at screens), our natural rotational capacity can quietly fade away.

When we actively nurture rotational movement, wonderful things happen:

  • Fluid movement quality: Gentle twists and diagonal reaches keep the thoracic spine (mid-back) supple and the hips free, releasing tension from the neck and lower back.
  • Built-in injury prevention: Strengthening the body along diagonal and spiralling lines teaches muscles and tendons to work together seamlessly, absorbing everyday shifts in balance and dramatically lowering the risk of strains or sudden pulls.
  • Everyday confidence and independence: True physical freedom is about trusting your body completely – knowing you can bend, twist, reach and pivot effortlessly with zero hesitation.

How we bring 3D movement to life

In my classes, functional exercise isn’t about complicated acrobatics; it’s about enriching the great work you’re already doing with natural, full-body strength patterns.

We pair powerful classic strength with movements that mirror your actual life:

  1. Multi-planar lunges and reaches: Adding a soft diagonal step or an easy torso reach to a lunge teaches your ankles, hips and core to stabilise in real-world scenarios.
  2. Diagonal lifting and chopping patterns: Using resistance bands or light weights in sweeping diagonal paths (from hip to opposite shoulder) strengthens your natural spiral lines from head to toe.
  3. Thoracic mobility warm-ups: Flowing windmills, thread-the-needles and gentle standing spirals wake up the mid-back so your spine feels tall, open, and supported before lifting weights.

Midlife is a time to feel powerful, capable and at home in your skin. By training in three dimensions, you give your body the exact tools it needs to stay supple, energised and ready for whatever turn life takes.

Here’s to staying strong, vibrant, and capable – for life!
